Oh my, this is one of the toughest ascents in our region, and it is only an access road!
Hulse Rd (unmarked!) to grade let up: 0.93 long, 757' ascent, 15.4%, and all on rough gravel. [That's the average, it lets up a bit to get wicked steep.] 2 photos of Hulse Rd from Pecks Rd are on links above. Once there, you are on the Black Rock plateau, an area of relatively easy cycling on gravel roads. It is quite lovely.
NJ Transit to Salisbury Mills-Cornwall. You get off the train just after crossing the Moodna Viaduct.
Exit options from Black Rock Preserve are this entry, by the tunnel under 9w to Mtn Rd, or down to Rt 293.
Black Rock Preserve requires a bike permit.
